Meal planner

A vegan meal planner that uses what you already have

Tell VeggieOS how many people you feed, how much time you have and what you dislike. It builds a nutritionally balanced plant-based week from your pantry first, then generates the shopping list for everything missing.

  • AI-generated weekly plans in seconds, editable everywhere
  • Pantry-aware: cooks what you own before it asks you to buy
  • Swap any meal and the plan and list update instantly
  • Version history, so you can compare and restore previous plans

Short answer

The VeggieOS meal planner generates a full week of balanced vegan meals based on your household size, time budget, dislikes and current pantry. Every meal can be swapped, the plan tracks protein and key nutrients across the week, missing ingredients become a shopping list grouped by supermarket aisle, and each version is saved so you can compare or restore earlier plans. It is completely free.

Key takeaways

  • A week is generated in seconds and stays fully editable.
  • The planner starts from your pantry, which reduces both cost and food waste.
  • Nutrition is balanced across the week, not forced into every single meal.
  • Swap one meal and the shopping list recalculates immediately.
  • Plan versions are stored, so you can restore last month's plan that worked well.

The reason plant-based weeks fall apart is rarely motivation. It is Wednesday, there is no plan, the fridge holds three unrelated ingredients, and takeaway is twenty minutes away. Planning fixes that, but manual planning is a chore that most people abandon after two weeks.

VeggieOS treats planning as something the app should do and you should edit. You give it constraints once — people, time, dislikes, budget, goals — and it produces a plan you can reshape by dragging, swapping and regenerating single meals rather than starting over.

How it works

  1. 1

    Set your constraints

Household size, cooking time on weekdays and weekends, allergies, disliked ingredients, cuisines you love, and any calorie or protein goal.

  2. 2

    Generate the week

The AI builds breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, reusing ingredients across days so nothing is bought for a single meal.

  3. 3

    Pantry first

Anything already in your pantry is prioritised, and items close to their use-by date are scheduled earlier.

  4. 4

    Edit freely

Swap a meal, lock the ones you like, regenerate the rest, or drag meals between days.

  5. 5

    Shop and cook

Missing ingredients become a shopping list grouped by aisle; cooked meals can be logged to your nutrition tracker in a tap.

Why people use it

Less food waste

Ingredients are deliberately reused across the week and expiring pantry items are used first.

Lower spend

A plan built from what you own plus one focused shop is consistently cheaper than daily improvisation.

Balanced without effort

Protein, iron, calcium and omega-3 are distributed across the week automatically.

No decision fatigue

Six evenings of "what do we eat" collapse into one five-minute session.

Adapts to real life

Late meeting? Swap to a 15-minute meal and the rest of the week reflows.

Version history

Compare two plans side by side and restore the one that worked.

How the plan is balanced

Balance is applied at the level of the week. Each day gets a protein anchor — legumes, tofu or tempeh, seitan, or a soy or pea product — and the planner varies the source so amino acid profiles and micronutrients spread out naturally.

Iron-rich meals are paired with vitamin C sources, calcium-set tofu and fortified drinks are used where calcium would otherwise be low, and a daily source of ALA such as ground flax, chia or walnuts is included. B12 remains a supplement recommendation, which the planner states rather than pretending food can cover it.

Pantry-aware generation and swaps

Before generating, the planner reads your pantry, gives weight to items nearing expiry, and constructs meals around them. When you swap a meal it re-checks the pantry, so the replacement is also something you can mostly already cook.

The swap engine respects your locked meals, your dislikes and your time budget for that day, which is why swapping rarely produces something unrealistic.

From plan to shopping to log

Missing ingredients are aggregated across the whole week — so three recipes needing chickpeas produce one line — and grouped by supermarket section to make the shop fast. In the shop, the barcode scanner can verify anything unfamiliar, and after cooking, one tap logs the meal to your nutrition tracker and updates your impact figures.

Real situations it solves

Busy weeknights

Cap weekday cooking at 25 minutes and let weekends carry the longer recipes.

Batch cooking

Plan a Sunday cook-up with meals designed to reheat well.

Families

Meals that split into a child-friendly version without cooking twice.

Tight budget

Bias the plan towards legumes, grains and seasonal vegetables.

Training blocks

Higher protein targets distributed across the day.

Trying a vegan month

A structured 30-day plan removes the guesswork from a challenge.
